A Baptism to Remember

August 23, 2011

Okay so I had a very long and interesting week. Lots of surprises and pretty much insane stories and other things... We did have a baptism this past week, it was quiiiite interesting. So the other day, we arrive and set up the baptism and the girls whole family is there (her name is Theresa) and her dad is the one baptising her. Well, we went over the dialogue and he stopped us and said he "knew what to do" and so we quizzed the family just to make sure. So he gets into the font and he can't figure out how to do anything (position, etc.) So for like 2 minutes we are trying to show him and fix his spaghetti arm situation and finally get it into place. And he baptises her and we find out he didn't have his arm to the square. So he does it again and this time gets it right, but this scene will stay in my memory banks for all eternity! So, picture this, he's standing there, with his daughter in one of the picture perfect moments you see in a church poster. When suddenly, he says AMEN and Slams his daughter to the bottom of the font! He holds her there for just enough time to have the water smash together over her face and he Yanks her up and out of the water like he's uprooting a very large carrot! And all of this being done with just one arm (his right one was still at the square) and water goes shooting out of the font like a cannonball just hit it! The whole room errupted with laughter and the bishop said it was good, and luckily Theresa wasn't hurt just shocked at the whole violence of the experience. But otherwise, she was confirmed as the newest member of the Plant City ward last sunday, and my new companion (Elder Weston) had the grand oppotunity of confirming for his first time (it was also his birthday)!
